The LinkStation Live Multimedia Storage Server features a high-performance Marvell Media Vault Processor, DDR-II Ram and high-speed SATA drive to deliver increased throughput rates of up to 35MB/s, which is five times faster than average single-drive NAS devices on the market. Its added multimedia features include an iTunes server and Direct Copy functionality. The iTunes Server function allows iTunes7 software to access music files saved on the LinkStation Live for playback via the iTunes portal. The Direct Copy function enables files to be transferred directly onto the device from a digital camera or USB flash drive.

Designed to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) specifications, customers can access the stored videos, photos or music and play them back on any device designed to DLNA guidelines. DLNA is an interoperability guideline that allows compliant products to work together so the user is not restricted to a single manufacturer when building their digital home
